130th Church Anniversary
We entered our 130th church anniversary with the theme that allowed our congregation to appreciate those who have gone before us as well as challenge those that are present, "Guided by Love Challenged by Faith". As you read the history of Calvary one cannot help but note the great faith and love of the people and the enormous stride they made. As the recipients of their personal sacrifices let us move forth with the vision God has given to the Calvary Baptist Church.
I am honored and privileged to serve as Pastor during this, a new transition in the life of the church and the people of God. The Harvest is indeed plenteous and the laborers are few (Luke 10:2). I thank God for the faithful believers at this branch of Zion. Your hard work and labor has encouraged this Pastor to continue the race that was started at a prayer meeting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Basil Thompson in 1875 and the origination of the African Baptist Church in 1879 which was named Calvary Baptist Church in 1900.
We thank God for the anniversary Committee chaired by Deacon Matthew Jenkins. We have been blessed by their commitment and dedication to make this celebration a memorable occasion. I am equally thankful to God for the Calvary Church family and their support in making this 130th anniversary one that glorifies God as we edify one another.
I am convinced, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love
Him." (1 Corinthians 2:9)
